alice jean

lots has happened since the last blog, of course for the last week I have been trying to remember how to log in brain in vacation mode!
Alice Jean was born on 9-9-09 at 2:22pm to 2 very delighted and exhausted parents. It is amazing how the upcoming arrival of a new person certainly changes the world. I went to work but was not focused. Her auntie and nana stopped their world to be there for her arrival. the pictures taken by Nana defintely showed how much her father fell in love with her at first sight. It is amazing to see that pure look of love on his face. Of course everyone who looks at her gets that same grin, it is so easy to fall in love with a new baby. we all love the innocence.

new look for the back yard

We are having a wedding Friday night, T our son is getting married. Next year it will be a Bulgarian wedding. Then Sat afternoon we will have B's family baby shower. Now my bride promised me that we would not go overboard on fixing the house up. I will admit she did better only new curtains outside and no new furniture.
now if we could get the inside going...my craftroom awaits me

mothers day was quiet! I needed a rough 2 days at work. We took each other out and saw the play Hairspray. It was great fun. Today I found out I will be teaching 2nd grade next year. I didn't realize how stressed I was about it until today when we got our assignments. I feel like a heavy weight was taken off of me. Everyone says be grateful you have a job, yeah that's easy for them to say they knew their grade they were teaching (or so they thought) I am excited to be there. Let's wait and see how I feel in Sept!

friends

Yesterday we went to see the movie "The Soloist" with Jamie Foxx and Robert Downey Jr. It is not a feel good all over movie, but it is one that makes you think and get a better understanding of what some homeless are like. They are people not nameless faces. I am uncomfortable around the homeless, they take me out of my comfort zone. I don't make eye contact with them. This bothers me, I feel like I should be a better person than this.
another thing that bothered me is I saw behaviors in the main character that hopefully today a teacher would recognize as "different" and the system would be able to help him before the schizaphernia (Iknow it is misspelled) got out of control. We often think these kids are just a little off, but could we help them sooner. This character was not violent but so many are, again sometimes I think fear stops us from doing anything.
The real bottom line in the movie was sometimes all someone needs is a friend, not be saved, not to be rescued just someone to listen to them, to care about them to be a friend. I think that is the hardest thing to do, accept someone for who they are and be their friend.

yesterday, daddy's b'day

we celebrated the april b'days yesterday. The weather was beautiful, the food was good and we are all healthy. What else could we ask for? it was nice seeing Danny and Joann plus the regular California crowd. What was also nice was having my Joann there, for years she has always worked weekends.
On a sad note another in-law on Joanns side is dying. this has been a very rough year for her side of the family. I am hoping this is the last of them.

one of the perks of being a teacher is you get to do somethings you wouldn't necessarily do at home but always wanted to do. I don't know why I wouldn't do it but I would not. One of these things is have a Chia pet. Let me introduce you to Lucy. the children named her and she is our science experiment. This week we also had a tarantula and a desert tortoise visit. I DID NOT touch the spider. I have respect for him. I also noticed the kids did too. The torstise's name is AT short for attack tortoise, so the kids didn't touch him either. I am curious to see who shows up tomorrow.

sofa sofa sofas

My wife has decided we need a new sofa...maybe if Becky and Jim buy ours. We spent the day sitting on this sitting on that. I felt like goldilocks and the many sofas. Of course I liked the expensive buttery feeling leather one, so did wifey but we couldn't decide on a color.
what was more fun was helping Marti buy a new sofa and chair, that only took about an hour. It is so muchmore fun to spend someone elses money

my first baby bunting for Alice Jean

Ok I found out I am having my first grandbaby...in Sept. This is not my first grandchld, the other 2 came out as 8 and 10 year old boys. I love them but it's not the same. The first baby also happens to be a girl. Her name is Alice Jean, named after both maternal great grandma's.
One of the best things of having little ones is I get to sew for her. The boys just aren't into granma making them jammies, hats, dolls etc. so a lot of my blogging is about the crafting I will get to do. I made my first bunting today..wow how easy and she will need lots of them living in oregon!
